Sport and recreation

The Sport And Recreation Program is an organized and structured program that is provided by FFAF and volunteers; with a focus on basketball, Arts and Drama and other activities that include: community leaders sharing their journey to success, safety awareness training, arts and craft and fieldtrips to local water parks.

The program is an opportunity for youth to become active and engaged in their respective communities, as well as develop transferable skills through positive social interactions. We are committed to providing programs that promote physical fitness, develop leadership, increase creative expression and provide a safe environment for children and youth to explore,learn and have fun.

Our program is concentrated in improvised areas in Peel Region, thus there is no charge for participation in this program. The objectives of this project are to:

  • Create a platform for youth to exhibit their talents in a sporting discipline
  • Impart skill and knowledge to participants
  • Encourage community members to celebrate and participate in physical activities
  • Provide an environment where families can get involve with their children
  • Offer culturally relevant sporting activities that reflect the diverse heritage of the residents of the community
  • Provide an opportunity for sponsors, organizers and community organizations to connect with youth

  • Attract participants from high riskcommunitiesthat will not otherwise be engaged in a structured program
  • Engage participants in activities that assist them develop pro-social behaviours
  • Help participants develop critical life skills and build positive character traits through involvement inorganized sporting and recreational activities
  • Offer culturally relevant and inclusive activities that reflect the diverse heritage of the residents of the community. Peel has a large immigrant and visible minority population and the activities will be designed to appeal to the target groups.

As stated above, our programs are designed to meet the needs of the target groups. We have a proven track record of working with diverse groups and developing programs that address specific needs. This fits with the core mandate of the FFAF “Every youth should have the opportunity to succeed”.
